UCY-CompSci has established a relatively large database of patient airway geometries obtained from CT-Scans. The database includes both healthy subjects as well as subjects with chronic airway disease, such as cystic fibrosis, primary ciliary dyskinesia and COPD. We have recently concluded an anatomic variability analysis among 194 healthy individuals (95 men, 90 women) and as we report in the Journal of Applied Physiology, we have found an incredible level of anatomic variability. We are currently carrying out a systematic in silico population study aiming to establish the how regional aerosol deposition in the central and peripheral airways is affected by these significant anatomic differences.
