    Mission and Objectives

    UCY-CompSci provides a core in the Computational Sciences that complements and enhances collaborations across disciplines under the unifying theme of computation. UCY-CompSci mission is to promote excellence in the application of Computational Sciences in tackling complex scientific and engineering problems, in the development of new knowledge in state-of-the-art computing science, and in training researchers in various sub-disciplines of the computational sciences.

    Recognizing the expressed mission of the host Engineering School to advance nanotechnology, and in particular the application of nanotechnology in tackling environmental problems, UCY-CompSci is seeking to develop computational tools that will support the local nano-manufacturing center. For tis reason UCY-CompSci is placing particular emphasis in multi-scale modeling and simulation methods.

    The Faculty members of UCY-CompSci maintain a strong network of international collaborations which provides opportunities for transfer of knowledge and training of research fellows at partner institutions. UCY-CompSci is also committed to creating a stimulating research environment through hosting courses and lectures by world class faculty from other institutions and through organizing international workshops in selected topics within the Computational Sciences. The specific objectives of this mission are:

    • to maintain awareness by its faculty members of cutting-edge issues in the Computational Sciences, and in particular in issues having to do with large-scale computations on distributed-memory parallel architectures

    • to consolidate and leverage the collective skills of UCY-Eng’s faculty towards multi-disciplinary research, especially in areas that will lead to novel developments in nanotechnology for the detection, monitoring and treating of environmental pollution

    • to provide a stimulating environment where a new generation of researchers will be trained in the Computational Sciences. Continuity of the transfer of knowldge will be ensured through training activities at various levels of experience

    • to generate opportunities for future collaboration between the hosted researchers, their home institutions and UCY-Eng.M
