Mouth-Throat (aerosols)

Aerosol Deposition in the Mouth-Throat-Trachea

Patient handling of inhaler devices is one of the factors contributing to variability in drug deposition in the extrathoracic airways, especially in the mouth and throat area. UCY-CompSci and Emmace Consulting SE are carrying out a combined in vitro – in silico study aiming to establish such effects in the case of Dry Powder Inhalers (DPI). For example, we have looked at the effect of varying the angle of inclination of the DPI mouthpiece as well as the position of the head. Comparisons between experiments and simulations include both visualization and quantitative analysis.
