UCY-CompSci joins forces with the University of Groningen and PureIMS in order to generate new knowledge on key factors that affect the performance of Dry Powder Inhalers of the Twincer family and variants. The airflow and particle release from the device were analyzed via high-fidelity numerical simulations. The Twincer is a single-use, dry-powder inhaler developed for relatively high doses of antibiotics. The design involves disc shaped air circulation chamber for de-agglomeration of entrained powdered medicament using the energy of the inspiratory air stream. The design enables the medicine to be diffused very effectively during inhalation.

PureIMS has also developed the Cyclops inhaler which works on the same principles as the Twincer but involves only one particle classifier.
